history
1949
Since the end of the contraband control operations, the few
remaining Tiger Moths were deactivated at the DGTAG&S, some of them
already being broken up and others waiting for their final
withdrawal, with the exception of 601.
As already
mentioned, this machine had been grounded at A.B. No 2 on account of
structural deformation and although several months had passed, the
personnel at that unit could not correct the faults in order for the
aeroplane to be returned to the DGTAG&S.
|
At the
beginning of March, a structural technician was sent from Boiso
Lanza who quickly resolved the problem, leaving the aeroplane
correctly rigged.
Later, Junior
Lieut. Rafael Beltrin and mechanic Private A. Romero flew her for
half an hour in order to test the engine, which functioned
satisfactorily, leaving the machine in flying order once again.
Two days later,
on May 18, 1949, 601 and pilot Corp. Marcelino Garcia flew for an
hour and a half and returned to the Capt. Boiso Lanza Military
Aerodrome where 601 was handed over to the DGTAG&S without incident.
|
|
She
had flown for a total of 1,252.6 hours.
It was
the last flight of any Tiger Moth in the service of the
Uruguayan Military Aeronautics.
